Xilinx Design Tools Xilinx BootGen Kit by Xilinx Inc. is a command-line utility and supporting resources for building boot images for Xilinx programmable devices. It assembles firmware components—such as first-stage boot loaders, platform management software, device configuration bitstreams, and application executables—into device-ready images that the on-chip BootROM can load at power-up. Using a simple, human-readable BIF (Boot Image Format) file, BootGen defines partitions, load and execution addresses, boot order, and device-specific attributes, then produces output files such as BIN, MCS, or PDI, depending on the target architecture.
Designed for use across the Xilinx portfolio—including Zynq devices, Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC and RFSoC families, and Versal adaptive SoCs—BootGen integrates smoothly with Vivado, Vitis, and other Xilinx workflows. It supports both development and production use, from rapid board bring-up to secure, signed, and encrypted images for manufacturing and field updates.
Key features:
Typical use cases include first-time hardware bring-up, secure production image generation, provisioning for multiple boot media, and building robust firmware update packages.
